Although you are now my enemy after what you've said about Clapton, I have pretty much the same opinion about the Dead's greatness through their career. There is way too much good music from the 80's and even 90's to dismiss those years. Sure they weren't as consistent but there were still so many magical shows that I would never only listen to 60's & 70's Dead. Although maybe 85% of my collection is from '66 - '74, I often seek something different and many of the later shows are perfect for that. I even love some of '95. Some of the most beautiful Jerry ballads were from the mid 90's.
